The concept for the renovation of an apartment in “Il Villaggio” condominium on Ocean Drive focuses on the idea that the ceiling contains lighting and mechanical equipment leaving the floor plan free from any constraints. The goal was to give further flexibility in plan and therefore give the feeling of a wider space reducing the feeling of compression caused by the very low ceiling heights. The shape of the new ceiling is derived from an abstraction of the red coral reef that fragments the space and divides it in different programmatic areas. The dual color, white for the faceted areas and red for the carved areas is a stretched Barrisol fabric. A Barrisol stretched ceiling is a non flammable sheet in PVC which is tightened under the effect of heat on the periphery of the walls thanks to a specific track system.
